GEO, AEO and SEO: the honest version
Generative engine optimization (GEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO) are SEO aimed at AI answers, not a separate discipline. Google's AI optimization guide (updated July 10, 2026) says AI Overviews and AI Mode are rooted in its core Search ranking and quality systems.
What changes is the shape of the result. An AI answer blends several sources and cites only a few. Google's guide asks for non-commodity content: first-hand experience and a point of view, not restated common knowledge. In practice the pages that get quoted carry specific, checkable facts such as prices, process, dates, places and proof.
What does not work: separate pages for every variant of a question (Google counts pages made to manipulate AI answers as scaled content abuse), bought mentions, hidden text for bots and rewriting a whole site "for AI". Google says none of it is needed.
Why it still matters: in a Pew Research Center study of US adults (July 2025), people clicked a search result in 8% of visits where Google showed an AI summary, against 15% without one. With fewer clicks, being the named and cited source matters more, especially on commercial questions.
How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT and Google
Make your business easy to find, trust and quote. In practice that is five pieces of work, and none of them is a trick.
- Be reachable: robots.txt, your CDN and your firewall let in the crawlers behind AI answers (Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot). OpenAI states that sites blocking OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers.
- Be in Bing: Copilot grounds its answers in Bing, and ChatGPT search sends queries to search partners. We verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools and submit new URLs through IndexNow.
- Be consistent: the same business name, address, phone, services and prices on your site, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, LinkedIn and industry directories, tied together with Organization structured data.
- Be quotable: one page per real buyer question, opening with a direct answer that has numbers in it, followed by detail and proof. This page is built that way.
- Be mentioned for real: genuine profiles, directory listings and articles where your category is discussed. We never buy or fake mentions.
How the setup runs
-
Baseline first
Before we change anything, we agree the 30 prompts with you and record today's answers, Search Console and Bing data. Without a dated baseline, no later claim of progress means much.
-
Facts and entities
We align your business facts across the site and main profiles, and add Organization, Service and, where it applies, LocalBusiness structured data.
-
Crawler access
We write an AI crawler policy for robots.txt with you (allow the search bots, decide on the training bots), check your CDN and firewall, and connect Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow.
-
Facts file and llms.txt
We publish a machine-readable facts file and an llms.txt, and link them from the pages they describe.
-
Handover or monthly work
You get a short report of what changed and why. The monthly plan, from $990, then adds new pages and fixes and reruns the prompt panel every month.
llms.txt: what it does and who reads it
llms.txt is an optional text file that gives AI tools a map of your most important pages. Google says it neither helps nor harms Google Search, so we never sell it as a ranking factor.
Who reads it: AI agents and tools that fetch pages on a user's request can use it, and Lighthouse now checks for it in its agentic browsing audits. The AI labs publish llms.txt files for their own developer docs. It is cheap to keep current, so it is one small part of the setup, nothing more.
You can read ours at /llms.txt, next to /en/facts.json, a machine-readable summary of the studio.
How we measure AI visibility
No single report shows everything, so we combine three sources and say plainly what each one cannot see.
We read the panel as a trend over months, never as a one-day score. The same prompt can name you on Tuesday and leave you out on Wednesday.
- Google Search Console, generative AI performance report (worldwide since August 31, 2026): impressions, pages, countries and devices in Google's AI features. It does not show clicks or queries yet.
- Bing Webmaster Tools, AI Performance report (public preview since February 2026): citations, cited pages and the grounding queries behind Copilot and Bing AI summaries. It does not cover ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google.
- A fixed panel of 30 prompts, rerun monthly in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot, logged with the date, whether you are named and which sources are cited.
- Leads from your site in Google Analytics 4, for visitors who consent to analytics.
Red flags when you compare GEO agencies
A promise of "#1 in ChatGPT" is the biggest red flag. No one controls what an AI assistant says, and Google's guidance on hiring an SEO (updated June 5, 2026) says outside tools and agencies have no access to its internal data and cannot guarantee results.
FastLanding is a two-person studio in Gliwice, Poland (EU). We have no US office and work with US clients remotely. Justyna takes US calls Monday to Friday, 3 to 6 p.m. Polish time, which is 9 a.m. to noon Eastern for most of the year.

- A proprietary AI visibility score with no prompts, dates or sources behind it
- Hundreds of near-identical pages for every city or question variant
- Paid or fake mentions on forums, review sites or Reddit

- A long contract signed before any baseline has been measured
